MYLES AND THE 11 PASSPORTMARCH

During an MBA interview, we always ask racers about their most embarrassing moment. Myles shared a wonderful story about his crash crossing the finish line at the 1995 Reebok Dual Eliminator. He still won the event. Another one was not allowed to be included in the story but it was too valuable to discard. For mbaction.com readers here’s Myles Rockwell’s second most embarrassing moment.

MYLES AND PASSPORT

In 1997, I flew to Paris, France for an indoor mountain biking race at Bercy Stadium. This was the location where I read about the Supercross races and I was excited to go there. The promoter sent me the tickets and started money. This is something that does not happen in America.

The race promoter gave me two sets of tickets. I flew from Denver, Colorado to Newark, New Jersey. Then, I would fly internationally from Newark to Paris. When I arrived in Newark, I realized that I had forgotten my passport. They refused to let me board the plane.

I called home to have my passport Fed-exed to me. I never received my passport. It snowed so hard that flights had to be grounded. I missed the race and didn’t receive my start money. Instead, I sat in Newark airport for three miserable nights. Newark is America’s worst airport to be stuck at. It was one those scary moments that you have to go through in your life.
