Rain was the strongest competitor at stop 2 of the NORBA National Series. The muddy conditions had a major impact on the results throughout the weekend. World Cup champion Alison Dunlap was involved in the cross-country, and she crashed twice. The second soil sample sent her to the hospital with an injured shoulder.

It looks like Ryder Hesjedals’ decision to remain in North America and focus on the NORBA XC series for the mens is paying off. Ryder is determined to have it. He raced from the start and rode to the front. Hesjedal won the race by 13 seconds, beating America’s strongest XC rider Jeremy Horgan Kobelski.

Roland Green, the World Champion, was absent.

CRASH

In the mountain cross, soil samples were collected. Eric Carter was eliminated in round 1. Wade Bootes then rang his bell loud in the second round. David Klaassen Van Oorschot, in his first mountain cross final, fell behind Greg Minnaar at the start.

Mike King and Gary Houseman finished the race one-two, achieving their best mountain cross finish to date.

Jill Kintner won the women’s final by leading from start to finish. This was her second consecutive NORBA Mountain cross. It was not all chaos for her. In the final turn, Sabrina Jonnier and Tara Llanes collided while they were battling for second place. Llanes suffered the most from the pileup, with a badly swollen knee.

MORE MUD

It rained more on Sunday morning but racers today seemed to be more content with staying upright. The women’s short track saw a fierce battle between Melanie McQuaid and Susan Haywood, with Chrissy Redden winning the sprint victory.

Jeremy Horgan Kobelski won his first ever short track title by bridging important gaps and jumping when it was appropriate.

Chris Kovarik, Marla Streb and Marla Steb were the first to reach the bottom in the afternoon downhill. They did this by using a reserved technique that was many seconds faster than the rest of the field.

Frances Sabrina Jonnier is a rider who is used to racing in the rain, but unfortunately she fell and broke her chin.
