SRAMs Cycling Fund will donate this year to Bikes Belong Coalition in order to build a broad-based political network of Americans who bike and to support government investment.
Bikes Belong is a non-profit organization based in Boulder, Colorado. It will help to create this network of hundreds and thousands of people in partnership with America Bikes, a national coalition of eight top national cycling non-profit organizations.
According to Tim Blumenthal, executive director of Bikes Belong, this is the most important year for federal bicycling funding. This includes a new transportation bill and the economic stimulus package. SRAMs generous support will enable us to develop a powerful campaign that encourages Americans to voice their support for bike funding.
Blumenthal stated that we plan to use many of the same database, networking, and fundraising strategies used by Obama’s campaign. Our goal is to reach hundreds of thousands, ideally millions, of Americans. We encourage people who are supportive of cycling to join the movement, and to contact their U.S. senators to increase federal investment in bicycling.
